Let’s explore the interaction between our brain and the mind. I often refer to the universal mind as “our mind” to give it a more personal perspective and because it is a localized part of the bigger mind. We use the mind to generate thoughts, which are a form of consciousness. Even though these thoughts are only one form of consciousness, they are still very powerful and have a huge effect on our life. The mind is dynamic and operates on both conscious and subconscious levels. Our mind interacts with our brain and, to a certain extent, their joint functions control the life we live. If we are going to evolve and take charge of our life, then it is paramount to understand how we can influence the functions of these two centres.
We use our mind to control some of the functions of our brain. Our brain can also operate without directions or instructions from our mind. To operate from a much higher level of consciousness, we not only need to know how we can control our minds, we also need to recognize the things that hold us back.
It will be beneficial to understand:
How and why we find it hard to let go of old beliefs that no longer serve us; How to transform the beliefs we no longer need;
How our perceptions and attitudes are formed;
Why we are naturally biased and the purpose of bias;
Why and how our negative emotions and reactions get triggered;
and Why we judge others and why is it so natural to do so.
The answers to these questions are woven through chapter 5 of:
